Thomas Dambo

I’ve been documenting the evolving world of recycle artist and activist Thomas Dambo—capturing behind-the-scenes moments of troll-building, community participation, and the ongoing development of the land surrounding Rancho Dambo. My photography tells the story not just of the monumental sculptures, but of the people and purpose behind them. I also photograph quieter, more personal moments with the Dambo family, offering a glimpse into the creative ecosystem they live and breathe every day.

Earlier in our collaboration, I produced, filmed, and edited four YouTube episodes documenting the creation of two stunning trolls in Ninigret Park, Rhode Island. These videos explore Thomas’s storytelling process and the collaborative spirit that fuels his work—from the skilled craftsmen and builders to the hundreds of volunteers who bring these giants to life. One highlight was filming an intimate conversation between Thomas and David Bird, the artist behind the whimsical Becorn characters.

You can watch these episodes on Thomas’s YouTube Channel.
